Today we were learning about the 14 coolest things kids have invented
I choose the Popsicle
In our reading group, our learning has focused on New Zealand innovators and inventors.
I chose to learn about the Pavlova because there was a huge debate between Australia and NZ because they didn't know what invented it first.
I found out that Pavlova, is actually a named after Anna Pavlova she was a famous dancer that visited both countries that caused a debate.
In our reading group, our learning has focused on innovators and inventors.
An innovator is someone who comes up with methods to build/invent so the prototype won't go wrong.
Kids can be inventors too. I found out that lots of kids have invented stuff that are really useful like Jeanie Low invented the kiddie step stool, Louis Braille invented a way for the blind to read.
I would like to invent a cure for cancer so the innocent people that have cancer have another treatment other that chemo and don't have to wait so long in hospitals.
In our literacy group, our learning has focused on the sea.
An interesting thing about dolphins is that there are a difference in dolphins dorsal fin like with the Maui dolphin they have a curled dorsal fin
Marine Biologists are trying to find out why dolphins are dying out so fast
Seaweed is amazing because it is a home to all of the marine creatures it gives them a place to hide when predators are out hunting and gives our sea turtles something other then plastic to eat
On the 21st of August was my birthday it sucked having a party in lock down could not see any of my friends except Charlotte over face time, All tho I had my birthday in lock down I still got to see my dad. we also built another rope swing on this weird strop that we found hanging in a tree worst experience of my life we went through lots of gorse, blackberry vines and huge prickles. After all of that we went home and planed a secret quiz night in the shed (no it was not cold out there!) Although I had my birthday in lock down it was a pretty damn good B-day
In our literacy group, we have been learning about Endangered Animals in New Zealand.
I chose the Kea and the Antipodes Island Parakeet.
They are endangered because Kea are killing each other because of their lack of personnel space. The parakeet does not know how to stick up for their self they get eaten by other large birds.
An interesting thing that I learned was that Kea are just off the edge to be extinct.
To help endangered animals, I think we could stop wrecking these poor animals habit so they wont get defensive of their personnel space STOP CUTTING DOWN NATIVE TREES.
Last week we had an Olympic based Athletics day, we had all of the events we usually do and at the end of the day we had a fun after noon. The events were wheel barrow races, gumboot throw, three legged race and more.
I really enjoyed the sack race at the end of the day because there were more than just one person in a sack that was really fun because we fell over more times then anyone else.
Something that was a bit tricky was long jump, it was a bit hard to throw myself forward when all i wanted to do was fall back and I did not even jump that far.
I am really proud of my running because I never come second in anything so I was very surprised with my results.
Definitely convince your teachers to do it. It was the best day at school I have ever had!
In our literacy group, we have been learning about Moa.
Moa are giant pre-exotic birds they lived on the east coast of NZ 500 years ago
They became extinct because the Haast Eagle and the other predators
An interesting thing that I learned was that Moa were found on the east coast of NZ and Gisborne is on the East Coast
Yesterday we had to do some ancient Olympics slides for the Olympics it had some cool facts and it was really easy to do.
This week in Maths, we have been focusing on measurement, mass and capacity (which was baking) as well as reading and writing.
I really enjoyed the baking this week because we got to eat the left over cookie batter (that was my favourite part),
Something that was a bit tricky was Discus. I didn't like it because the paper plates did not FLY! we need actual frisbees.
I am really looking forward to more challenges coming up and I can't wait to do hockey measurement challenge.
My Holiday
The first thing that I did in the holiday was a big fat huge trip to Napier and of course we had to stop at Oslers bakery in Wairoa its just a must do! After a long drive we are finally in Napier as soon as we pull up Misty ( My Grandpas dog) rushed up to greet us. After lots of hugs Liam and I said goodbye to our dad and see you on Sunday
We crusied down town trying to think of something to do we ended up going to flip out a huge trampoline park, I was helping my cosin with her tumbling and front aerials. The next day we went to the Reading cinemas and it took us ages to deiced on a movie but we compromised and went to Space Jam, no regrets the best movie I've seen so far.
Finally its Sunday as soon as we found a park at Wairoa we rushed out of the car to go see Dad after all it had been 5 days since we last saw him. As soon as Liam and I got home I rushed into Mums arms I had missed her so much I was very glad to be home with my Mum
When we get back to Gisborne we had exactly 4 day to practice for the winter wool es! For you that don't know what that is it is a horse back riding competition. My result were one 3rd one 5th one 6th one 2ed and one 4th and I was super happy with that because we only had 4 days to practice. As soon as I got home i felt like I wanted to melt into my bed like butter does on hot pancakes I was so exhausted. It was worth it though.
Today we had to write up this Terms reflections
I found it really easy to write it but not easy to go into detail I found that really hard because I had no idea what to write.
Today we went to Farmers air,
We got to see the BVA fly around and drop fertiliser on the grass outside the hanger we also got to see another plane that take pictures of the ground and gets turned into maps.
